SEPTIC TANK

          SEPTIC TANK AND ITS SIZE   

INTRODUCTION:
A septic tank is a watertight chamber made of concrete, fiberglass, PVC or plastic, through which domestic wastewater (sewage) flows for primary treatment. Settling and anaerobic processes reduce solids and organics.

         PARTS OF SEPTIC TANK:



SEWAGE: Dirty water which comes out from inlet.
SLUDGE:  Sludge which comes from inlet and stay inside
DETENTION TIME: Time taken to digest the sludge.the detension time varies from 12 hrs to 24 hrs.
TOP SEWAGE LINE: Top swage line stay above 300 mm from  ground level.
INLET: Through inlet sewage and solid particles comes in the septic tank.

OUTLET: Digested sludge went to drain through outlet.

SIZE OF SEPTIC TANK:
Lests assume number of users: 6
Cleaning period:3 years
One person produces 30 lit sludge/year
Total sludge:6x30x3
              =540 lit
One person produces sewage 50 lit/day
Total sewage:6x50
               =300 lit
Total volume: 540+300
             =840 lit
But we know that standard volume of septic tank is 1400 lit for being successful.
Capasity of tank=1400 lit

Depth:1.5m                                                                                                                 Surfacearea=1.4/1.5
                       =~ 1 square meter( value less than required standard

for 6 persons

width: 900 mm
length: 3x900=2700 mm
height: 1.5 m + free board 300 mm=1800 mm
volume:900x2700x1800 cubic mm.
